A Welsh Sketchbook - Day Two

Day Two- Pen y Fan and Penderyn

For this trip’s peak-bagging challenge we took on Pen-y-Fan, the highest Brecon. Starting early, the fog rolled in about halfway up and we came close to getting lost at the ridge (despite a map), had another hiker not kindly set us on the right path. The cloud lifted as we scaled Craig Dhu before the final dip and rise to the summit cairn. We lunched on the summit, being joined by an intrepid sheep, before starting down again, where the fog soon returned and took away the view once more.

Later, after a visit to Penderyn distillery, where I completely forgot to unearth either sketchbook or camera on the tour, we attempted to find one of the more famous waterfalls, but turned back due to boggy ground, and I made some sketches of ponies grazing.

Before dark I explored the grounds of the hostel, and drew the stream and a wonderful log covered in bracket fungi, collecting some leaves to draw indoors after dark.
